"You're interested in knowing how to treat a black widow spider bite. My name is Beverly Bitterman , ARNP, health and wellness consultant, and I'm here to talk to you about that. First of all, if you think that you have recently been bitten with a black widow spider one of the first things you need to do is be getting somebody to drive you to the ER. Or if you are having symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, anything that is interfering with your respiration, then you need to call 911 to get to the ER. Black widow spider bites can be very serious, even life threatening. If possible, if you know where the black widow spider is and it's easy to trap, you can take it with you so that they can verify that, indeed, it was a black widow spider bite. They are black, they're small, they're typically in dark, littered spots like the black of a closet, maybe under a wood pile, and they have a violin-shaped kind of a red spot on their thorax. So if you can bring it, bring it, but don't wait just to capture it. The other thing that you would want to do is if it's, say, on an arm, you may want to elevate the arm. You'd want to keep the person that was bit calm -- as calm as possible -- avoid excess activity, and again, get them to the ER. My name is Beverly Bitterman, ARNP, and I wish you very good luck with this."
