Okay, now I'm going to show you how to subtract fractions from whole numbers, take this example; eight minus one-third. So I''m going to change this to seven plus three thirds, which is the same as eight, minus one-third. So three thirds minus one-third is two-thirds. So we're left with seven and two-thirds. Okay, I'll show you another example of how to subtract a fraction from a whole number. Let's take sixteen and minus four-fifths. To do that we must change sixteen to fifteen and five fifths, which is the same as sixteen; minus four-fifths. Now what we do here is, we take the four-fifths and subtract it from five-fifths and then add the fifteen that we came with originally. Five fifths minus four-fifths is one-fifth and that's how you subtract fractions from whole numbers.
