Video Transcript

"Hello, I'm Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, a board certified dermatologist and author of Six Weeks to Sensational Skin. This clip is about arthritis skin problems. There are certain diseases where you can have both arthritis and a skin rash as part and parcel of the same disease. Probably the most common of these is psoriasis. So if you are someone who has red scaly patches, typically on your elbows or maybe the backs of your hands and you're starting to feel some joint discomfort, it's a very good idea to go to your physician and ask for an x-ray of the joints where you are experiencing the discomfort. You may well have not just regular arthritis but what we call psoriatic arthritis. Another kind of disease that links both skin findings and arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis and people who have this will not only have typically changes in their hand joints but they also can get little nodules under their skin which we call rheumatoid nodules. So if you are having skin and arthritis problems, please see your doctor because there's wonderful treatment. This is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo in Miami."
