Learn how to ride a skateboard and how to attempt various skateboard tricks in this free video series on skateboarding techniques.
This is Kyle Hovercamp from Skatechurch in Portland, Oregon. On behalf of Expert Village, this is the tutorial of how to learn how to ollie on your skateboard. In this clip, I'm going to be showing you how to roll on your skateboard. This is important because you have to do it before you ollie and after you ollie when you land. What you want to do is set your board on the ground. When you're rolling, you want to have both feet on the bolts. The bolts are these 4 screws on each end that hold your trucks onto your board. You have your feet on your bolts. That's the main thing right now. You have to keep balance, not be standing up straight. You can't have your feet too close together or too far apart because you don't have as much balance. That's why I say keep it on the bolts. You have to keep your balance. That's the main thing when you're riding your board or you will fall off. You can't stand up too straight, can't go down too low. You just have to be in the middle where it's comfortable. You have to keep your knees bent a little bit. You should keep your arms out. That helps you balance a lot. Just stay in the middle on the bolts. Now that you have your feet on your bolts, you're ready to roll. Take your back foot off and just give yourself a little push. Put your foot back on your bolts and you start rolling. Remember to keep yourself centered on the bolts. You have to have your balance all good so you don't fall. When you're rolling, something that you could do that might take a while but you have to learn it some time. When you're rolling, put your back foot on the tail and you can turn. That's called pivoting or just turning. Practice rolling around, pivoting, and turning, and we're going to get to foot placements on how to ollie.
