The procedure of re-charging a car's A/C. Learn about recharging a car's air conditioner with refrigerant in this free car maintenance video.
In this clip we're going to talk about the proper service procedure to retro fit your vehicle's air conditioning system from R12 to 134A and recharge the system. In this step we're going to talk about the actual charging procedure for your vehicle. What you're going to do is step back and fire up the engine. Once you have the engine started you are going to turn the air conditioner on to its maximum cooling setting and set your blower motor on high. Once you have the engine running and your blower motor set on high you're going to screw your valve down and pierce the seal in the can. Once you've run the piercing valve all the way down you're going to take and unscrew the piercing rod to open up that port. As you can see I'm ready pressure on the gage now. Now what's happening is I'm going to continue to agitate the refrigerant inside the can. That's going to make sure we get all the additives into the system. It'll take approximately five to fifteen minutes to drain the can. Make sure to add the appropriate amount to your system. That is the proper way to pierce your can and begin the recharging process.
