Train a gerbil to do tricks or just to be sociable with tips from the manager of a pet store in this free video on pet care.
Hi I'm Ashlee from Pet Planet. I'm in Riverton, Utah. I'm here to help you understand how to better train your gerbil. Just like the hamsters you do want to hold them a lot. You want to make them feel comfortable with you. If they do tend to bite you, you don't want to drop them immediately. They feel like they can keep biting you after that and you will drop them so you just want to be patient and work really hard with them. Start with holding them over the cage as well as making sure that they are comfortable with you and also you can do the walk on the hands which helps them calm down and eventually they just know that you are not there to hurt them and they will be one of your greatest pets. Also another thing that you can try that is possible is you can actually potty litter your gerbil. You want to make sure that you find the area that they can most likely go in and you set that potty area in there and it might just work for you. Also you can train them by putting, if you have a cage with tubes or anything like that you can put food up in the tubes and train them to actually climb up in those tubes for the fun and they will pick it up.
