A Comet pressure washer is a mechanical spray device used to remove dirt, mud and grime from surfaces. It utilises water delivered through a high-pressure hose to clean concrete driveways and road surfaces, vehicle exteriors, building facades and works well in marine environments. Regular maintenance that includes oil changes and lubrication can help keep parts working optimally and make them last longer.
A trigger nozzle on a Comet pressure washer pump attaches to a braided steel hose that in turn connects onto the washer pump. Nozzles have internal mechanical components that can wear out over time through use or neglect. Replacement nozzles must be matched to your AXD, HWS, LWS, ZWD or other series pump. Nozzles have adjustable knobs so that you can regulate the stream of water as you spray.
Several replacement crankcases are available for your Comet pressure washer pump. Specs for each series varies. The HWS series pumps, for example, use an anodised aluminium crankcase specifically made for high-speed operation. It runs at 1,750rpm and has 24mm solid shafts with solid ceramic plungers and forged bronze connecting rods. It can deliver pressures ranging between 3,200 and 4,000 PSI. ZWD series crankcases are larger and intended for heavy-duty cleaning applications. These crankcases are designed to provide better oil lubrication and lower operating temperatures. They run at 3,400rpm with pressures between 3,200 and 4,000 PSI. Comet FWS series pump crankcases are constructed of die-cast anodised aluminium for high speed operation and come with stainless steel piston guides and tapered roller bearings that give added strength to the pump. AXD crankcases are designed for use with gasoline engines. They run at 3,400rpm and pressure operation runs between 2000 and 3000 PSI.
Some Comet pressure pumps use Buna V-packing, which are seals that offer extreme resistance to petroleum-based oils, water and alcohols. These moulded seals, composed of nitrile, have a V-shaped cross section ring that is designed to keep the internal pump parts dry and free of debris. Individual seals are available and also sold in a package with several seals included.
