The Philips HTS 3115 Home Theater System features "5.1" surround sound audio, customisable equaliser settings, an FM radio receiver, a DVD player and a digital display. Still, even with these advanced electronic features, the party stops when technical difficulties manifest. Fortunately, several common problems with the HTS-3115 DVD player can be repaired without calling a technician. Troubleshoot the HTS-3115 DVD player to see if the problem is one of the simple ones.

No Picture

Occasionally, a picture may not appear on the screen when you're attempting to watch a DVD. If this should happen, first ensure that the correct media input source is selected on the television. When this is complete, check the rear of the DVD player and the television for loose or broken connections. If still experiencing problems, change the disc mode by pressing the "Disc/USB" button on the DVD player remote control. If you're still experiencing an absence of picture, try cleaning the DVD, as sometimes dirt on the disc can prevent correct loading. If this does not solve the problem, contact a repair professional.

No DVD Playback

If the Philips HTS-3115 is not playing a DVD that has been inserted face down in the disc tray, eject the disc and try repositioning it on the tray. If you're using a DVD-R or CD-R disc, make sure the disc is finalised since a disc must be finalised before it can be played on the 3115 DVD player. If the disc is a store-bought copy, ensure that the disc is programmed to use the NTSC colour system for players purchased in the United States and the PAL system for those bought in Europe. If still experiencing problems, the player may have accumulated condensed moisture. Remove the disc and leave the system turned on for an hour to heat and evaporate any trace amounts of water, then try inserting the DVD again.

Nonfunctional

If the power won't turn on, the situation for the DVD player may look bleak. In this case, perform a reset of the device by powering the unit down and unplugging it from the wall. Leave the unit unplugged for at least three minutes, then plug it back in and power on the device. If no power goes to the device, contact a service professional for assistance.

No HDMI Video Output

This problem deals with interaction between devices. The HTS-3115 player can provide HD (high definition) output only to a device equipped with High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection. If your television does not include this protection, the player will not play in high definition.
