Foaming bath butter combines the richness of a body butter with the foaming and cleansing action of a bath gel. It comes in a creamy formula that lathers up quickly. The base is white and scentless. It whips up to double its volume. Use a foaming bath butter base to create your own bath products, gift baskets and even shaving cream.
Sugar and salt are two standbys for including in an oil-based scrub. They will dissolve in a bath butter because of the water content. You could keep adding salt or sugar until the bath butter is supersaturated and won't absorb any more. Then the salt or sugar will stay crystallised. Or you could use ground almonds or sunflower seeds instead. These won't dissolve or expand. Put a handful of nuts in the blender or in a spice grinder, then whirl until the nuts are about the texture of cornmeal. Mix in with the bath butter. If you'd like to use cornmeal or oatmeal as the scrub, add it while you're using the bath butter and mix it in the palm of your hand. Both of these absorb water. If you add it to the bath butter and let it set, it will lose its exfoliating ability.
Scented Bath Butters
Essential oils are said to have therapeutic attributes. Lavender is calming, citrus is energising and eucalyptus helps the respiration system, according to Janice Cox, author of "Natural Beauty at Home." Create your own combinations of essential oils by mixing them drop by drop into the foaming bath butter. The scents are powerful, so go slowly.
Increase the Moisture
Cleansing skin whisks away oils, leaving the skin feeling tight and dry. Adding oils to the foaming bath butter increases its moisturising ability. It's recommended that no more than 118ml. of oil be added to 0.907kg. of the butter. Use an electric mixer to incorporate olive, almond, walnut or jojoba oil to the butter a few drops at a time. Adding too much oil cuts down on the foaming ability of the bath butter, so don't go over that 113gr. limit.
Shaving Cream for Men
Men can have sensitive skin just like women. Make a batch of foaming bath butter that he can use as a shaving cream. It will moisturise his skin as well as provide a base for a close shave. Add a few drops of masculine scents such as citrus, rosemary, pine, cedar or cinnamon to the butter.
Create a gift basket with bath products all with the same scent. Add a few drops of lemon, lime and grapefruit essential oils to the foaming bath butter. Add a few citrus-scented candles, a citrus-scented body lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Wrap in a lemon-coloured towel and place in a basket.
