Make the bathroom feel like an escape to an exotic locale by decorating the space in a style evocative of foreign lands and places. Decorating your bathroom in Moroccan style is one way to create such a look. According to Alexandra Bonfante-Warren, author of "Moroccan style," such a style is "...a sublime balancing act, a harmony of simplicity and elegant profusion."

Light Fixtures

Install Moroccan-style lighting as a simple step that will greatly transform the look of your bathroom. In Morocco, you can purchase lanterns that have ruby, emerald, topaz and sapphire-coloured glass to cast a luminous and tinted light. Such distinctly styled lamps and light fixtures are available in America, made to mimic that style. Purchase metal or brass candlesticks to display in your bathroom and to use when appropriate, as candles will give the room a mysterious glow. According to the book, "Culture and Customs of Morocco," the most popular Moroccan style of lamp is made out of leather and decorated with henna designs.

Moroccan Textiles

Filling your bathroom with Moroccan textiles such as curtains and rugs is another simple way to incorporate this distinctive design style into your bathroom. For example, Moroccan rugs are either flat or knotted and have vibrant designs and colours, often displaying geometric patterns. Tossing a Moroccan rug into your bathroom as opposed to a typical bath mat will instantly give the room a more exotic feel. Adding textiles such as window treatments and shower curtains made out of Moroccan-style embroidered fabric will also assist in completing the look.

Colours

The walls of most Moroccan style rooms "...often boast the shades of sand and spices," states Alexandra Bonfante-Warren. Paint the walls of your bathroom in colours that reflect the warm reds of paprika, the burnt sun tint of saffron couscous, the harmony of desert sand and the muted tones of turmeric and cumin. The colours of the walls should give your bathroom a languid feel yet impart a sense of vitality. Accents of stained glass window panes can help achieve this dramatic yet fluid look.
