Technology in the waterslide industry changes fast. Waterslide popularity and technology has exploded in the last 30 years, as waterslides have given roller coasters some tough competition. The water coaster is a new advancement in the waterslide industry that actually pushes the waterslide guests uphill, to then plunge them back downward. Before the advent of the water coaster, waterslides simply slid downward.

The Black Hole: Austria

The Black Hole is 211 meters (692 feet) long and is the longest waterslide in Europe and possibly the world. This waterslide, located in Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg, Austria, has an elevator taking passengers to the top of a central tower. The waterslide's stainless steel tubes circle around the tower. Once inside the waterslide, guests enjoy light and fog effects and a free-falling drop of 6 meters after sliding 120 meters. Sound effects also add to the enjoyment of the slide, which creates the feeling of flying through space. Also in Sonnentherme are the family attractions offered by Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg Thermal Spa. Water experiences such as Baby World, Funny Waters and Silent Dome are offered, as well as massages, a sports pool and more.

Black Anaconda: Wisconsin, U.S.A.

The Black Anaconda in Noah's Ark Water Park, located in Wisconsin, is over a quarter-mile long and is the longest waterslide-water coaster in America. After entering the Black Anaconda, guests zoom through six humps of the slide and enjoy being rushed through the Anaconda's coils in the darkness, before travelling at a speed of around 30 miles per hour at a near straight-down drop. Guests splash out of the Anaconda's mouth into a pool of refreshing water. Other exciting water rides at the park are the Scorpion's Tail, Dark Voyage and Jungle Rapids. Dining and shopping options are available at the park.

Masterblaster: Blackpool, UK

Located at Sandcastle Water Park in Blackpool, United Kingdom, the Masterblaster is the world's longest indoor waterslide-water coaster. The slide features a total length of 250 meters (820 feet). Guests can enjoy being plunged down chasms and inclines. This waterslide combines water-injection technology with the excitement of being the world's first uphill water coaster to create a thrilling slide for guest enjoyment. This ride is appropriate for families. This ride is considered a thrill ride, so it may not be appropriate for those with physical limitations. The water park does have a safety hot line available for patrons considering sliding on the large Masterblaster. The park also has a lazy river family attraction, Ushi Cushi River Creek, dining facilities, children's pool facilities and other water chutes for family fun.
