When kids are looking for ways to earn money, they may consider organising a yard sale or selling lemonade. While these moneymaking schemes can make small amounts of cash, they won't make a decent or a regular wage. There are, however, ways kids can earn money through helping people with various tasks.

Dog Walking

If your child loves dogs, dog walking may be the perfect way for him to earn extra money. Although professional dog-walkers can handle several dogs at a time, most kids should start off with only one dog. Neighbours make the most obvious customers, and many of them would welcome paying a child a few dollars to take their dogs out for a much-needed walk. Children should make sure they are comfortable with the dog beforehand, and should ask the owner for any tips on handling the dog in different situations.

Some children find typing easy, especially these days where the computer is the most basic way that many kids communicate. Others, however, may still find typing properly a chore. If your child has classmates who feel this way, she may want to consider offering to type other students' papers for a small fee. She will have to be responsible enough to schedule the time necessary to type the paper, especially as she will usually have the most job offers soon before a large project is due.

Raking and Shoveling

In the fall and winter, the falling leaves and snow are like falling dollar bills for many kids. The more they rake or shovel, the more money they have to last through the rest of the year. Raking leaves from a neighbour's yard can be fun, especially if kids do it as a group. Offering to shovel out your neighbour's car or sidewalk can be helpful to them, especially after a large snowfall.

Tutoring younger children is a great way for kids to earn money. Although many believe that tutoring is only for the brightest students, many students who struggle with their own material can better understand what a struggling second or third grader may be going through. A tutor can help a student master material, and the tutor can also become a confidante or a mentor for the student, which can boost his or her own self-esteem.
