Decorating Games for Girls & Boys
Decorating games allow children to create their own virtual rooms that reflect their personalities. (The girl behind a computer on a white background image by Aliaksandr Zabudzko from Fotolia.com)

Decorating games allow girls and boys to express themselves by creating their own virtual room. They can add wallpaper or paint these rooms, or they can even add furniture, friends or a pet as well. These games allow children to freely express themselves and learn skills such as colour coordination and interior designing. All of these games are free.

Room Maker

This game is specifically geared toward boys, but some features are also geared toward girls, including a lollipop-themed bed or bright-coloured wall and furniture colours. Users can choose between either a Round Window Room or a French door Room to begin. The looks of these rooms are very modern and plain when the game begins. Children, however, may add beds with football, car or Mardi Gras themes. Other types of furniture include computer setups, chemistry sets and a football-themed couch. Items can be added by simply dragging and dropping them in place, and then clicking the mouse to secure them to the walls or floor. Once they're finished, users can either print out their creation or e-mail it to friends and family.

Home Decor Games

This game can be played by either boys or girls, especially younger children. Items in the room can be changed simply by clicking on the icons below the room. Users only need to keep clicking on the icon until they find a piece of furniture, room colour or carpet that they like. This program is very colourful and easy to use. It also uses Flash animation, which makes it interactive, with sparkling signs and waving balloons. This program is geared toward children who wish to decorate their own room, and they can print out or save their picture so that they can use it for a guide for decorating their real-life room.

Decoration Games

While this game is mainly geared toward girls, boys may enjoy the Asian theme. This game allows users to explore Japanese and Asian culture by assisting a girl named Azuki with decorating her room. All the room's items are already stacked up in the room; users just need to drag and drop them in place. These items include Asian pillows, vases, candles, tea kettles, a screen and a chest of drawers. This game can be used by children of all ages, since they just need to know how to click and drag to get everything in place. It is very colourful, but there is no animation. This game cannot be saved, e-mailed or printed out.
