Microsoft offers a whole line of LifeCam web cameras, from simple and cheap, to more costly cameras that take video in HD. Microsoft LifeCams come with a "Dashboard" program, that allows you to add interesting and entertaining video effects that can be used to create video clips as well as video chat with Microsoft Messenger.

Distortion Effects

The Microsoft LifeCam offers a whole range of facial distortion effects. There are effects which target a certain portion of the body, such as "Large Nose," "Small Eyes," or "Alien." Other effects target a certain portion of the screen, compressing the corners, or bulging or swirling the centre.

Colouring Effects

Several different colour or texture efects are available for use with the Microsoft LifeCam. You can invert the colours for a photo negative effect. You can also change to black and white or sepia toned images. More interesting effects include "Poster Art," "Watercolor," and "Glowing Edges."

One of the most entertaining set of video effects is the accessory effects. The program automatically locates the parts of the face, and allows users to select various fashion accessories such as hats, glasses, masks and even hairstyles. The accessories move around the screen and adjust perspective with the user's face.
