Knuckle dusters, also called brass knuckles, are a type of weapon designed for wear over the fingers. Usually made of brass or aluminium, this type of weapon evolved from the ancient Roman cestus, a type of fighting glove. Having a knuckle duster in your possession is illegal in some states, so be sure to check your laws before purchasing one. There are a number of uses for a knuckle duster that don't involve violence.

A knuckle duster made of solid brass weights about seven ounces. This is ideal for a paperweight. Keep your knuckle duster on your office desk to hold down papers if you sit by a ceiling fan or open window.

Turn your knuckle duster into a corkscrew. The fact that you can place it over your fingers gives you extra leverage when pulling the cork out of a wine bottle. Solder the metal rod of the corkscrew to the middle of the knuckle dusters and bring it out as a conversation piece at a wine tasting party.

Collection Piece

Knuckle dusters can be distinctive additions to a collection of historic weapons. Add several antique pieces to your collection. You can generally purchase them at flea markets, swap meets or antique shops in states where the weapon is legal. Display the knuckle dusters in a glass case.

Belt Buckle

Turn your knuckle dusters into a belt buckle to create a heavy-duty fastener for your belt. Lay the knuckle dusters flat and attach a belt buckle stud to the centre. Remove the original buckle from your belt and attach the new one.

Use your knuckle dusters as an ornament on your Christmas tree. If you have an extensive collection of the weapons, turn it into a themed tree. Because they are heavy, be sure to place the knuckle dusters on the sturdiest branches.
