Edging, or edge banding, is typically used to finish a laminate counter or shelf that uses a particle board or plywood substrate. PVC is one most commonly-used plastics for fabricating edge bandings, for a number of reasons. It is durable, yet flexible enough to provide a smooth edge on the curviest surfaces. Since the colour runs all through the material, it won't show nicks and scratches the way some veneer edgings can.

Rockler Woodworking and Hardware

Rockler sells PVC t-edging in tan, brown, black and white. T-edging affixes into a slot in the surface edge, so it holds better than traditional flat edging. The edging is available in 3/4-inch and 13/16-inch widths. They also sell router bits for cutting the right sized slots into the edge to accept the barbed t-edging.
