While a traditional birthday card can brighten a person's day, a more creative idea is to develop a birthday video card. By creating a personalised birthday video card, you have a chance to use various graphics elements along with an audio message that can show a birthday boy or girl how much he means to you. You also can have greetings from one or more individuals (family, friends, coworkers) for a wonderful birthday.

A Humorous Video

A humorous video birthday card can be the perfect theme if you want to make the recipient laugh. For example, for someone turning 50 who is worried they are getting "old," a video where well-wishers dress up as teenagers can be a great idea. Include a dialogue that talks about the negatives that are associated with youth, like pimples and awkward dating. Each person participating in the sketch can list another negative to be young with the video ending with, "Turning 50 starting to sound good? Sure it is. Happy Birthday!"

A Heart-Felt Video

A more sentimental expression of birthday well wishes can be created using personal messages, photos and music. Use a consumer video camera to film special messages from individuals close to the recipient and edit them in a video editing program. A retrospective can be a nice approach for children who are creating a video birthday card for mom, dad or a grandparent. Using family photos tie together special moments that you have shared over the years. Create a script that provides a voice-over as pictures are shown and end with a final message telling the recipient happy birthday.

Using Special Effects

Emoticons, animated GIFs as well a wide variety of other special effects can be added to your birthday video card using a program like Adobe Premiere Elements, a consumer level version of Adobe Premiere which cost less than the professional level version. You could also use Windows Movie Maker. A birthday cake with flickering candles or a row of dancing teddy bears wearing birthday hats are examples of animated GIFs that can be incorporated in your birthday video card.
