There are many different vinyl sticker crafts that you can make. Use your creativity and decorate wood surfaces, glass, ceramic or metal objects. You can even use vinyl stickers to decorate your home. This is an inexpensive hobby that will allow you to be as creative as you want. You can make decals from your own art work, or purchase ready-made decals to use on the objects you want.

On Wood

Slide-off vinyl decals can be used on wood furniture surfaces as decorations or to brand a certain design. Water transfer decals can be printed on either ink jet or laser printers. Place the decal in water for 30 seconds until the decal begins to slide on the backing paper. Transfer the decal from the backing paper to the front of a headboard, a chair or a table. This type of decal is very thin and when a varnish is applied over it, the decal won’t leave a bumped or raised area caused by the decal paper. Make special wooden plaques, decorate furniture, antique wooden toys or gifts using decals from artwork that you print yourself.

Ceramic, Glass & Metal

Use decal stickers on ceramics, glass or metal. Slide-off decals can also be applied to ceramics like cups, plates or wall tiles. Make wall tile paintings, personalise coffee mugs or apply decorative decals to plate and glass sets. Make these as holiday gifts or for personal use.

When you use water slide decals, you can either order special decals for your project or print your artwork on blank water slide decal paper made for either ink jet or laser printers. Cut the decal to size, place it in water for about 30 seconds and then slide it onto the surface you want. Images that go on this type of surface need to be printed in reverse. Most printers have this option and you will need to read the printer manual or play around with the settings to find the printer setting to do this. Once applied following the ceramic slide-off decal instructions, the ceramic, glass or metal product has to be cured. In many cases you can bake the item in an oven so the ink molecules melt and attach to the ceramic, making the item washable.

Wall Art

Use Vinyl stickers to make special wall art to decorate rooms, an office or a classroom. Use lettering for special messages above door frames or on mirrors. Apply beautiful flowering trees, branches or designs to walls in rooms. Make your own designs using a graphics program and take or send it to a sign making store that has a large vinyl plotter. Have them print your design to the size you need. Print smaller designs, letters or sections on decal paper and then apply them to the wall.

Arrange the vinyl wall art the way you want without removing the backing paper. Mark the area on the wall where you want it. Clean the wall of dust and dirt before applying the decal. Place the vinyl wall art on a flat surface and gently remove the backing paper, allowing the vinyl to stick to the transfer tape. Once you have removed the backing paper you can apply the decal to the wall. Remove air bubbles by pressing a credit card edge against the surface of the vinyl and adhering it to the wall.
