Since the fireplace is often the focal point in a room, updating the display and decor is a quick way to change the look of a room. When displaying items on your fireplace mantel or around your fireplace, keep in mind that as a focal point, it sets the tone for the rest of the room. Also, keep the display items in a similar type of decor style as the rest of your house.

Nature

An elegant look for wintertime, and even for the rest of the year, is to bring the outside into your home. One way to do this is to go outside and collect a few branches. Spray them with silver spray glitter. Place one or two branches in a tall, glass vase and place it on the fireplace mantel. Use multiple vases if you like.

Monochromatic

Try using multiple objects in the same colour on your fireplace mantel. For example, choose a colour, such as white, and group together vases with white flowers in them, prints in white picture frames and white antique mirrors in displays on the mantel. The display is eye-catching. Or, in another option, create this look with brighter colours, such as yellow or orange.

Large Mirror

Bring more attention to the focal point in your room by propping a large mirror above your fireplace. Either hang it on the wall or prop it up on the mantel. The mirror should be about the same width as the fireplace itself and quite tall. Either use a black-framed mirror or one with no frame with it.

Candles

Candles can create a striking display on your mantel. One idea is to place a row of tea-light candles across the mantel. Position them the same distance apart from each other. Add long, white and tapered candles in groups of three on the fireplace.
