Teen boys are stylish and fashionable in their own right. They can create trends and switch styles with the drop of a hat and still look "cool." Teen boys can interchange styles such as a preppy skater boy and the look instantly becomes trendy.
Thick prep school meets modern trends when dressing preppy. The look is classic among teenage boys because the fashion will never go out of style. Wear polo shirts in solid colours or with stripes and khakis or relaxed-fit jeans. Warmer weather may call for shorts, but only flat-front shorts -- no cargos. Cooler weather will require argyle sweaters, sweater vests and long-sleeve polo shirts. Pair the outfits with white tennis shoes and brown loafers or sandals.
Incorporate the preppy look with other styles, such as an athletic style. Pair khaki shorts with a sporting jersey and a white, collared polo underneath. When wearing the preppy style, make sure to wear the right accessories such as a coordinating belt, classic gold watch and wallet.
Take the term "jock" to the extreme by wearing a letterman's jacket with jeans and a school T-shirt for your signature style. Jock, or athletic, styles involves wearing athletic apparel for both professional teams and school teams. Wearing track suits with sporting jerseys or T-shirts is a standard look for an athletic look. Teenage boys who wear the athletic styles also lean towards athletic apparel brands such as Nike, Champion, adidas, Puma and Reebok.
Fashion-Forward/ Trendy Style
Teenage boys who are on top of the trends will fall into the trendy category. These boys enjoy wearing the latest fashions and are not scared to show off their panache. Items of clothing that fall into the "trendy" category include skinny jeans, fitted button-up shirts with short sleeves, knee-length cropped shorts, graphic T-shirts and blazers. In addition, the trendy teen wears fedoras, belts with wild patterns and non-prescription glasses. Once the trendy teen has his outfit chosen, he will pair the look with high-top sneakers, or another in-season shoe.
The skater style is similar to a fashion-forward teen; however, the colours are more muted and darker than a trendy style. The skater boy will often wear black skinny jeans or overly baggy jeans in a dark wash. Shorts are similar with thin-cut dark wash or black jean shorts or a dark thin material. The skater look may also include graphic T-shirts, vintage rock and roll T-shirts, "hoodie" sweatshirts and long cardigans.
Skater boys will pair low-top and high-top sneakers with the look. Accessories dominate the skater style with chain belts, non-prescription glasses, fedoras and beanie hats.
