Aluminium foil is a very useful item to have around the kitchen. Aluminium foil can be used to cover dishes and can withstand being put in the oven and even on the barbecue grill during cooking. There are two primary types of aluminium foil that you will see for sale in your grocery store: regular aluminium foil and heavy-duty aluminium foil.
Regular Aluminum Foil
According to Reynolds Kitchens, a leading manufacturer of both heavy-duty and standard aluminium foil, the standard aluminium foil is best used for tasks such as covering food dishes, wrapping sandwiches or vegetables and reheating already cooked items in the oven. Standard, or regular, aluminium foil is thinner than heavy-duty aluminium foil and will not withstand high heats and heavy weights as well as heavy-duty aluminium foil.
Heavy-Duty Aluminum Foil
Reynolds Kitchens claims that heavy-duty aluminium foil is intended to be used for wrapping meats that will be placed in the freezer for storage, lining pans during cooking and even for wrapping foods in while you are cooking them. Extra heavy-duty aluminium foil is intended for use for long-term storage of items in a freezer or for lining and cooking on barbecue grills.
When you are shopping for aluminium foil, you will notice that standard aluminium foil is almost always significantly less expensive than heavy-duty aluminium foil. Though aluminium foil prices will vary by store and brand, an average roll of standard aluminium foil will typically cost between 60p and £1.30, while heavy duty foil may cost twice as much.
If you are unsure of which type of aluminium foil you want to buy, you may want to keep in mind that heavy-duty aluminium foil can perform all of the tasks that regular aluminium foil is used for but that the opposite is not true. Standard aluminium foil is more likely to tear, melt or otherwise fail to work properly when used in situations where heavy-duty foil is appropriate.
