Tuberculosis caused the most health-related deaths during the Victorian Era. People who became ill during this time were sent away to "workhouses." When a person needed to have surgery, he did not use any kind of painkiller for his pain. They also did not use anaesthesia, so a person would be in an operation for hours in unbearable pain and agony. During the Victorian Era, people dined in the basement. They thought that their food would digest better in the dark, so dining rooms were placed in the basement.
