Body kits for go karts, also called "go carts," are usually made of either fibreglass or plastic. They can be constructed from a mass-produced template or a totally new, custom design can be created specifically for the kart. Custom options include seat belts, rims, horns, lights, side mirrors, various paint colours, graphics and logos. Most go karts are suitable for ages six and older, depending upon the manufacturer. Go karts generally weigh approximately 136kg.

The NASCAR-style go kart is a very popular design. These karts are basically replicas of NASCAR race cars, designed with a driver's car number, sponsor's name, logo and colours. NASCAR go karts can be decorated with emblems and other designs, and are available in various paint schemes, just like race cars. Even the tires can be made to resemble those of a race car.

An antique go kart often has a high, wooden seat and an open design, similar to a jeep, with no doors. Other antique body styles feature seating lower to the ground with doors that can be opened and closed. The steering wheel is long, tall and unpadded, as in an antique car. Antique go karts have wheels with open spokes. Available styles include some of the following: tin lizzies, roadsters, tankers, stakebed trucks, and pedal cars.

Sports Car

A sports car go kart can be made in the likeness of a high-performance American or European performance car. Vipers, Prowlers, Ferraris and Corvettes are all styles that are available as go karts. Racing stripes can be painted onto the body. A sports car go kart typically has only one seat.

A go kart can be created to look like a pickup truck, semi-truck or monster truck. Semi-truck styles can be made with a trailer or flat bed in the back. A horn can be added for an authentic truck sound. Monster truck styles can be designed with functioning lights, a front grill, side steps and oversized tires.
