Make your own engagement party gifts and wedding favours for a fun way to personalise them for your special day. You can save money, too, as long as you set a budget for your raw materials and stick to it. Gather your friends and family at a special "construction" party, and your gifts will be ready in record time.

Engagement Party Favors

Make your own handmade soap to match the theme of your engagement party, or purchase decorative soaps in your choice of scents and shapes. Print the couple's first names and your wedding date, and attach to a strip of paper wrapped over the soap. Wrap each bar of soap with tissue paper in one of your wedding colours, and glue together at the bottom. Attach your personalised label to the top of the soap. Place the soaps in a large basket, and hand out at the door as your guests leave.

Couple's Engagement Gift

Purchase a basic white photo album with a recessed space on the cover to insert your album's label. An album that holds 5-by-7-in. phots on acid-free pages works well. Drill ¼-in. holes in the album's cover about ½-in. to the right of the bound edge and 1-in. from the top and bottom. Thread 1-in. red satin ribbon through these holes, and tie in a bow outside the cover. Create a label on cardstock with the couple's names and future wedding date or party date. Glue hearts, diamond crystals or other wedding motifs to the front cover. If available, insert photos of the couple you already have and leave blank pages for them to add their own.

Wedding Guests' Favors

Create fudge favours that resemble a three-layer cake to take home on your special day. The fudge should be made in advance to give it plenty of time to cool. To be successful, use the highest quality chocolate you can afford, allow the fudge to cool to room temperature before refrigerating and slice the fudge with a very sharp knife to ensure clean cuts. This recipe simply requires semi-sweet chocolate chips, butter and sweetened-condensed milk. The bottom layer is a 2-in. square, the middle tier is 1½-in. square and the top is 1-in. square. Top the cake with a sugar or gum paste flower, and place in a small clear gift box for giving.

Wedding Couple's Gift

Fill a honeymoon basket for the special couple as a gift they will truly appreciate. After placing gold or silver filler in the basket, add a bottle of champagne with a personalised label with the couple's married names, wedding date and honeymoon destination. Add two monogrammed champagne flutes you etched yourself and a box of gourmet chocolates. If the couple is flying to their destination, luggage tags with their initials and address label make a nice touch.
