Even toddlers can help decorate their rooms. (son game image by Andrey Kiselev from Fotolia.com)

Design a bedroom that taps into your little boy's imagination by painting cartoon murals and decorating with dinosaurs, trucks and other toys that suit his tastes. Choose one main character theme, or simply decorate a room with a blue or white colour scheme. Ask your son to help pick out bedding, drapes and toys for his new room.

Rustic Camping-Style Room

Paint the walls in your son's room red or blue depending on his preferences. Hang up glow-in-the-dark stickers on the ceiling, so you son can pretend that he is looking at the stars at his favourite camp spot while he drifts off to sleep. Buy rustic log-cabin-style beds and furniture for the room. Feature accents like cosy quilted wall hangings and bedding. Hang up framed photos of the forest and lakes. Decorate shelves with pine cones and stick crafts that your son made.

Batman Room

Hire an artist to paint the city of Gotham from the "Batman" movie on the main wall. Paint all the other walls dark blue and leave the ceiling white. Put your son's bed up against the wall with the city. Place glow-in-the-dark stickers of stars and planets on the ceiling so he has a view of the city and stars at night. Install shelves with Batman memorabilia and characters. Adorn your son's bed with dark blue or Batman bedding. Hang a few small bats from the ceiling as well.

Old-Fashioned Fire Engine Room

Decorate an old-fashioned fire engine room for your son. Paint the walls in the room red and leave the ceiling white. Hang up framed pictures of old fire engines from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s on the walls. Look for these pictures at fire engine museums or antique shops. Adorn your son's bed with solid red-and-blue bedding or red-and-blue-striped bedding. Install a shelf and place old-fashioned fire engine toys on it. Install a hat hanger on the door and place a fire hat there. Adorn the rest of the room with fire engine toys and accessories.

Soccer Star

Create a soccer star room for a little boy who loves soccer. Paint the walls green like the colour of the grass on a soccer field. After the green paint is dry, paint gold stars and soccer balls around the border of your son's room. Install shelves and place your son's soccer toys and books on them. Look for soccer-ball beanbag chairs to feature in the room and soccer-ball bedding. Include a net basket filled with colourful soccer balls in the corner of the room.
