How to Connect a Dreambox Via Satellite Dish

Updated April 17, 2017

Dream Multimedia manufactures a range of Dreambox satellite and cable television set-top receivers for the United Kingdom and European markets. With a Dreambox receiver hooked up to your satellite dish, you can watch a variety of high-definition and standard-definition free-to-air satellite channels. You can also tune into paid channels if you have a valid subscription card, which slots into the front of the receiver. Connecting the Dreambox to a satellite dish is a straightforward process that involves the use of a standard coaxial cable.

Switch off the TV, the Dreambox receiver and all connected equipment. Move the TV set and Dreambox so that you can safely and conveniently reach the back of both devices.

Plug the input coaxial cable from the satellite dish into the "Antenna In" or "LNB" jack on the back panel of the Dreambox. Push the F-type cable connector on the input cable into the jack firmly but gently to ensure the connection is secure.

Plug one end of the video connection cable into the output socket on the Dreambox. Plug the other end of the cable into an input socket on the back of the TV set. Most Dreambox receivers use the European multi-pin SCART video cable but connect a high-definition Dreambox to a high-definition TV set with an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) lead. Dreambox units usually ship with the correct type of video connection cable.

Plug the power cable for the Dreambox into an AC power outlet. Move the TV and Dreambox back into position.

Switch on the Dreambox by pressing the "Power" or "On" button on the Dreambox remote control. Switch on the TV set and tune to the correct channel for the satellite receiver's output by pressing the "AV" or "EXT" button on the TV's remote control. Continue to press this button until you see the output from the Dreambox on the television screen.

Press "Enter" or "OK" on the Dreambox remote control to launch the on-screen set-up wizard. When prompted, use the arrow keys and "OK" key on the Dreambox remote control to select your TV screen type, display aspect ratio and language preferences from the menus. The Dreambox will scan for all available channels from the broadcast satellite and add these to the electronic program guide.

The channels you receive on the Dreambox will vary, depending on the broadcast satellite to which your satellite dish is tuned.
