Surprising a girl on a first date is an enjoyable way to express your personality, introduce some excitement and spontaneity into your interaction and create a memorable and positive experience. Inventive first dates can be especially romantic, and they help suggest that you're definitely not the boring type when it comes to courtship. Consider several different methods for surprising your date, and choose something that would suit her personality and interests.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Take her somewhere unexpected. This allows for a huge amount of scope and creativity, although ideally it should be a place that will either be especially romantic or cater to her personal interests. For example, if you're aware that a meteor shower will be visible that evening, you can "accidentally" get on the "wrong" bus to where you originally planned to go and end up at a grassy field where a picnic basket is waiting. Or, if a particular band that she likes is playing a show, surprise her with tickets.

  2. 2

Dress up. Donning a cowboy costume or a tuxedo can be a great way to make her laugh and break the ice, and it can be especially effective with additional props (in the case of the tuxedo, a martini, for instance). If you think she'll play along, take an extra element of the costume for her to wear -- for example, another cowboy hat.

  3. 3

Give a thoughtful gift. Although it doesn't have to be a grand gesture, a little gift adds a surprising and romantic element to a first date. If there's a favourite flower or chocolate that you've heard she enjoys, present her with it when you first meet for your date.

  4. 4

Arrive with ingredients. If you've decided to have a date at home, arrive at her place with a bag full of ingredients for a special meal and dessert. This makes for a great date, because cooking is often an entertaining activity for getting to know another person.
