Princess Jasmine is the lead female character in the animated motion picture "Aladdin." She is one of the few Disney princesses with no desire to find a prince to marry. Jasmine is curious, independent and headstrong. These qualities make Jasmine a favourite Disney princess among both young girls and adult women. As an Arabian princess, Jasmine dresses in the traditional harem-style pants and midriff top. You can mimic this look at home by altering a few easy-to-find clothing items.

Instructions

  1. 1

Measure the circumference of your ankle, and record the measurement. Add a half inch to the measurement, then cut the elastic. Sew the two ends of the elastic together. Repeat this process with the other ankle.

  2. 2

Turn a pair of turquoise satin pajama trousers inside out. Place the elastic band around the bottom cuff of the trousers, and fold the bottom hem over the elastic band. Use straight pins to hold the trousers in place over the elastic. Sew the trousers just above the elastic band. Repeat this process with the other pant leg.

  3. 3

Wear a thick gold belt over the waistband of the trousers.

  4. 4

Sew a gold trim around the edges of a turquoise bikini top. Try using a turquoise tank top if you want a more modest costume or are making it for a child. Cut the bottom of the tank top to the length you are comfortable with. Sew a gold trim around the bottom and top edges of the tank top.

  5. 5

Cut off the hands of a pair of turquoise dress gloves to create Jasmine's sleeves. Sew a gold trim around the edges. Wear the sleeves around the top of your biceps.

  6. 6

Wear a pair of turquoise or gold ballet-style flats on your feet. Wear gold sandals if you are unable to find any ballet-style flats.

  7. 7

Purchase a long black wig from a local or online retail store if your hair is not already long and black. Style the wig into a loose ponytail at the nape of the neck. Fasten the ponytail with a turquoise ponytail holder. Tie another turquoise ponytail holder around the middle of the ponytail.

  8. 8

Wrap a turquoise ribbon or headband around the top of your head. Leave a few inches of hair in front of the ribbon or headband. Pin a dark blue brooch in the style of a single jewel at the top of the headband or ribbon.

  9. 9

Accessorise the costume with a pair of gold earrings that dangle down from your ears and gold choker necklace. Line your eyes with black mascara and eyeliner, and paint your lips red to complete your Jasmine look.
