One feature that originated in the eBay auction experience is the ability to see who's bidding on which auctions. Since 2008, eBay has changed this so that the bidders' identities remain private except to the seller. No one knows who's bidding until the end of the auction. After that, anyone can check your feedback page to see what you've purchased. However, there is a way to make your feedback profile private and hide this information from others.
- Skill level:
Go to eBay's Feedback Forum (pages.ebay.com/services/forum/feedback.html).
Look under "Feedback Tools" on the right side of the page and click "Make Feedback Public or Private."
Sign in using your user name and password, if prompted.
Click the radio button beside "Make Your Feedback Profile Private." Your feedback will be hidden and you will not be able to sell items unless you change it back to public.
Tips and warnings
- If you are bidding on a private auction, such as the ones found in the Mature section, your bidding will automatically be set to private for that particular auction. No one will know you purchased except for the seller, even if they check your feedback page.
