You can make your own Pokemon character sprites out of perler beads to hang and display. Perler beads are small, round hollow beads that are available in a wide selection of colours. The perler beads are placed on a pegboard in the arranged pattern of a Pokemon character sprite. Video game characters such as Pokemon are developed from pixels. Perler bead projects take on a pixelated look when fused together to create your Pokemon sprite.

  1. 1

Search for Pokemon character sprites on the Internet. Save the image of the Pokemon sprite that you want to make in a folder on your computer.

  2. 2

Open the Pokemon image sprite by right clicking on it and choose the "Edit" option. This will open the Pokemon sprite in a screen where you can add a graph over the image. This will be your guide for placing the perler beads on the pegboard.

  3. 3

Gather all the colours of perler beads you will need to make your Pokemon character. Place the perler beads on the pegboard according to the graph pattern on your computer screen. Lay all the beads flat on the pegboard with a peg aligned in the hole of each of the beads to keep them even.

  4. 4

Lay a piece of parchment paper over the perler beads on the pegboard carefully. Turn on the iron to medium heat.

  5. 5

Lay the iron flat onto the parchment paper. Check to make sure the beads are flat and even under the paper as you slowly slide the iron back and forth over your Pokemon sprite project. Slow movement of the iron will ensure the beads will not become dislodged during the fusing process. The heat of the iron will melt the beads, fusing them together.

  6. 6

Peel off the parchment paper from the Pokemon bead sprite. Turn over the project, apply the parchment paper and repeat the ironing process to the other side of the Pokemon character.

  7. 7

Peel off the parchment paper and allow the Pokemon bead sprite to cool for a few minutes. You may lay some magazines or books on the project to prevent it from warping for a few minutes as it cools. Your Pokemon perler bead sprite is ready to hang or frame.

Tips and warnings

  • An adult should do the ironing if this is done with children for safety.
