Every year, people light up their homes in spectacular fashion for the holidays using various forms of decorative lights. LED Christmas lights have a longer lifespan than incandescent Christmas lights and the colours will never fade. When LED Christmas lights fail it can be a result of a blown fuse, failed LED bulb, or not enough power is getting to the LED light string. Replacing the fuse, checking the power source and using a Christmas bulb tester will assist you in finding the reason for your failed LED light string.

  • Three amp fuse
  • Flathead screwdriver

    Pry the fuse from the plug on the LED Christmas light string to check to see if it has blown. Pry the fuse cover from the face of the plug using the tip of a flathead screwdriver. Lift and fold back the fuse cover and pull the fuse from the plug using needle nose pliers. If the filament of the fuse has blown, the fuse must be replaced. Most LED Christmas lights are run using a three amp fuse.

    Test the bulbs on your LED light string using a Christmas light bulb tester. Insert the plug of an LED Christmas light into the socket on the tester. Turn on the tester by pressing the power button. Push the "Test" button on the front of the tester to check to see if an LED bulb has failed. If there is evidence of a faulty bulb, the tester will buzz to indicate an issue and the bulb must be replaced.

    Check the power source that is feeding the LED Christmas lights electricity, can handle the proper voltage needed to power the lights. If the voltage was too much for the outlet, it may have tripped a breaker in the fuse box in your home.

Tips and warnings

  • Always make sure the outlet your lights are plugged into can handle at least 125 volts.
