Customising your computer's desktop is more than simply decorating a space you commonly see -- it's making a statement of who you are and what you like to create. The biggest part of customising your desktop is designing your own desktop wallpaper, and your range of options is limited only by your imagination. You can even decorate your desktop with your own name emblazoned across your computer screen in a bold, stylised graffiti design.

Click on "Start," then "Programs," then "Accessories" and finally on "Paint" to open the Windows Paint program.

  2. 2

Press "Ctrl" and "E" together to open the Image Attributes screen. Make your image's width 1024 and its height 768. Then click on the "OK" button to start your design.

  3. 3

Choose a background colour for your desktop from the colour palette at the top of the screen by clicking on the colour you'd like to use. Then fill the image with your chosen colour using the Paint Bucket tool. Click on the "Paint Bucket" icon on the left side of the screen and then click anywhere on your image.

  4. 4

Click on the "Spray Can" icon on the left side of the screen and then click on the colour you'd like to paint with from the colour palette at the top of the screen.

  5. 5

Spray your name onto the screen in any design you want. Experiment with the Spray Can tool to create the style of graffiti you'd like your name to have. If you create block letters, you can go back and use the Paint Can tool to fill in the letters.

  6. 6

Use the Line and Shape tools to make more precise lettering. Remember that you can fill in the letters using the Paint Bucket tool later. You can also use the Line or Spray Can tools to make drop shadows, outlines or other special lettering effects.

  7. 7

Click on the "File" menu at the top of the screen and then click on "Save As" to save your finished desktop background. Note the place where you save the image so that you'll have an easy time finding it again when you're ready to set it as your desktop wallpaper.

  8. 8

Set your new image as your desktop wallpaper by right-clicking on any open space on your desktop and then clicking on the "Personalize" option in the context menu that appears. Select the "Desktop Background" option from the Personalization menu and then select your new wallpaper image by navigating to it via the selection window. When you've selected your new image, click the "OK" button to change your desktop wallpaper to your new creation.
