How to Measure Goalie Gloves

Updated April 17, 2017

The goalkeeper is the only player in soccer who is allowed to touch the ball. Most goalies wear gloves to improve their catching and protect their hands. The gloves provide greater traction and surface area for the hands, and they also provide protection and cushioning for fingers and the palm.

Measure the circumference of the palm, not including the thumb. The best place to measure is right below the knuckles. Do this for both hands.

Take the larger measurement of the two hands and round the circumference up to the nearest whole number.

Add 1 to the number you just reached. This result translates into the goalie's glove size.

Goalies should wear gloves that run a little big in size. This allows for both comfort and greater surface area for traction.
