How to Create Your Own Stuffed Teddy Bears

Updated April 17, 2017

Creating a stuffed teddy bear can be done in a small number of steps, but requires careful attention and patience while sewing and tracing a pattern. However, creating your own stuffed teddy bear or stuffed animal allows you to select your own pattern and fabric.

Select a teddy bear pattern and using a marker, trace the pattern onto two pieces of fabric. If you decide not to use a pattern, freehand trace the teddy bear outline onto the fabric, leaving an extra 1/4 inch for sewing.

Cut out your outline.

Using a sewing machine or needle and thread, place the pieces of fabric inside out and sew around the edges. Leave an inch unsewed for inserting the cotton stuffing.

Turn the animal inside-out to hide the stitching.

Stuff the teddy bear through the unsewed patch to a desired level of fullness.

Using small, precise stitching, sew together the remainder of the pattern.

Add embellishments as desired, using a marker (or thread and buttons) to create a mouth, nose and eyes.

Things You'll Need
