Runonce.exe is a Microsoft Windows wrapper program, which allows installers to automatically run once after rebooting. This allows the installer to offer you to configuration options after installation is completed by the reboot. Because this is a system file, you should not remove or disable it. However, the program does not need to consistently run during start-up. If you notice this occurring, you can safety disable it from start-up without disabling the program completely.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Click the "Start" button, type "msconfig" and press "Enter."

  2. 2

Click the "Startup" tab of the "System Configuration" window that appears.

  3. 3

Uncheck "runonce.exe" from the list of "Startup Items," and click "OK."

  4. 4

Click "Restart" to restart you computer immediately, or you can click "Exit Without Restarting" if you prefer to restart later.
