Adjustment of the tension on the front forks of a Honda Gold Wing depends on the year and model of the motorcycle. There are also aftermarket add-ons or modifications that make more adjustments possible with finer settings. Adjustments are largely a matter of personal preference. Stiffer settings encourage less front end braking dive, but also stiffen the overall feel of the ride in the front end of the bike. Adjustments can be tailored for different situations, depending upon driving conditions and bike load.

  1. 1

Adjust the fork air pressure. Remove the valve cap on the GL1100, and add air using an air compressor or hand pump, or remove air by depressing the centre of the valve stem until the desired pressure level is reached. Use a low pressure tire gauge to measure pressure.

  2. 2

Use the compressor on the GL1200 and early 1500 models to reduce or add air pressure to the forks. The controls for the compressor are located on the dash. Turn the key the "On" position to use the compressor

  3. 3

Turn the setting on the top of the fork of the late GL1500 and GL1800 using a flathead screwdriver. Adjust to a higher number for a stiffer fork and less braking dive. Adjust to a lower number for a softer, more comfortable ride.

  4. 4

Install an aftermarket fork or suspension kit to increase fork tension and gain more adjustment settings. These kits are available from many aftermarket retailers such as Progressive or Race Tech.
