Formica countertops provide an attractive countertop surface, both for the kitchen and the bathroom. Although durable, Formica surfaces need special care and maintenance to avoid damage. Protect it from heat and flame. Use gentle cleaning products to ensure you do not scratch the Formica surface. If scratching occurs, restore shine with products that will gently clean and polish the surface to make your countertops attractive again.

  1. 1

Spray the Formica with the glass cleaner to remove superficial scratching and staining.

  2. 2

Wipe the counter with a dry cleaning cloth to remove the glass cleaner and buff the surface.

  3. 3

Apply about a quarter-size amount of laminate polishing cleaner to a dry cleaning cloth.

  4. 4

Work the laminate polishing cleaner into the Formica, rubbing gently into the areas where you see dullness, scratching or scuffing. Continue applying the laminate polishing cleaner to the entire Formica surface to polish the entire surface and make it look uniform.

  5. 5

Allow the polishing cleaner to dry for several minutes until you see a light film over the counter surface.

  6. 6

Buff the surface with a clean, dry cloth to remove the dried cleaner. The Formica surface should appear shiny after buffing it with the polishing cleaner.

  7. 7

Repeat the polishing process when the Formica requires shining and buffing.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not use abrasive scrubbers or products on Formica surfaces because these products will scratch and dull the shine.
