How to clean up catalogs in backup exec

The Backup Exec software program is used by companies to provide backup solutions for dozens of computers at a time. It has a built-in catalogue of records that keeps track of every operation that the software performs. This includes every backup, attempted backup, client connection attempt and failed operation that the software carries out. Over time, this catalogue can grow to a significant size, and any time someone tries to access the catalogue, it can slow the software down to a halt. You can solve this problem by periodically running a cleanup operation on the catalogue, which archives the old entries and erases them from the main program window, freeing up space and speeding up the software.

    Click "Start," "All Programs," "Veritas" and "Backup Exec."

    Click "Tools."

    Click "Options."

    Expand "Catalog."

  5. 5

    Click "Archive and clean up" and wait for the operation to complete.

    Click "OK."
