How to knit a dog sweater for a chihuahua

The petite Chihuahua dog may enjoy a cosy and fluffy sweater during the coldest months of the year. A snuggly pet sweater for this small dog will not be difficult to make, but the basic knowledge of how to knit is required before attempting this project. A fluffy eyelash yarn that mimics fur is available at knitting supplies shops for this Chihuahua sweater, which will keep your pet warm during outdoor walks in winter weather.

Cast on 22 stitches with the yarn. Knit two rows.

Increase one stitch every other row to make one until you have 34 stitches. Knit rows over the 34 stitches until the piece of work measures 11 inches in length.

Knit 9 stitches and attach the second ball of yarn. Bind off 16 stitches. Knit to the end of the row to begin shaping the sweater neck. Knit each edge of the neck for 1 additional inch and bind off.

Thread a tapestry needle with 24 inches of yarn and sew the neck edges together.

Knit a strap for the lower portion of the Chihuahua sweater by casting on 6 stitches and knitting every row until the strap is 6 inches long.

Sew one edge of the strap to the bottom edge of the sweater with the tapestry needle and yarn. Press the adhesive hook and loop fasteners to the opposite end of the finished Chihuahua sweater.
