  1. 1

Pick out felt for the cake frosting. You should choose a colour which contrasts with the cake but looks nice with it. For example, if you've made a dark brown, devil's food type cake, choose a pink frosting. If you made a white cake, you can choose pale yellow and pretend it's lemon.

  2. 2

Place the felt cake atop the frosting felt and trace a circle around it. Remove the cake and cut out the circle from the frosting felt.

  3. 3

Cut a wavy edge around the frosting circle. You want to make it look like frosting that has dripped or been spread around the top of the cake.

  4. 4

Stitch the frosting to the top of your cake using a thread that matches the frosting so you can't see it.

  5. 5

Pick a ribbon for the filling of your cake. Choose a ribbon that is the same colour as the frosting, but a darker shade. For example, you would choose a red ribbon to go with pink frosting or a bright yellow ribbon to match pale yellow frosting. You want the ribbon to remind you of a fruit filling.

  6. 6

Measure a length of filling ribbon around the cake and cut it. Stitch the filling ribbon to the side of the cake in the middle.

  7. 7

Stitch a couple of pearl seed beads to the top of your cake using a thread that matches the filling ribbon. The pearls are meant to be pretty sprinkles, so you should spread them about randomly but keep them within the confines of your frosting.
