How to Connect a PS3 to a PC Monitor

Updated February 21, 2017

Connecting your Sony PlayStation 3 home video game console to a computer monitor requires a High-Definition Multimedia Interface, or HDMI. This type of input is the only video-transfer format supported by the PS3 that you can also find on a PC monitor. If your monitor does not have this HDMI input, the connection will not be possible and you'll have to connect your PlayStation 3 to a regular TV set.

Determine whether your PC monitor has an HDMI video input by checking the manual. HDMI is a high-quality method of digitally transmitting high-definition video signals from one device to another. HDMI is the only cable that will allow your PC monitor to display the uncompressed high-definition images being emitted by your PlayStation 3.

Make sure both your Sony PlayStation 3 and your PC monitor are plugged into power outlets.

Connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI input on your PC monitor.

Connect the other end of this HDMI cable to the HDMI output on the back of your Sony PlayStation 3.

Press "Power" to turn on your PC monitor.

Turn on your Sony PlayStation 3. You will now be able to see your Sony PlayStation 3 on your PC monitor in high definition.
