The Nintendo Wii can emulate older classic consoles as well as a few newer consoles including the hand-held Nintendo DS console. You can use an emulator called DeSmuMe Wii through the Homebrew Channel to play your favourite compatible Nintendo DS games. The Homebrew Channel must be installed before you can install and operate the DeSmuMe Wii emulator.

  1. 1

Click "Start," "Internet Explorer." Navigate to the Wii Brew website and click on "Download" to save the DeSmuMe Wii emulator to your Wii. You are transferred to a Google code page. Look for the latest revision DeSmuMe Wii emulator when downloading. Extract the download into a folder named "DeSmuMe Wii" on your computer. After checking the compatibility list for the emulator, browse different online ROM websites for Nintendo DS ROMs. Extract the ROMS into a folder named "ROMS" on your computer.

  2. 2

Insert an SD card into a compatible card reader your computer. Click "Start," "Computer," and right-click on the card. Click "Format" and format as "FAT32." Double-click on the card. Click "File," "New," "Folder" to make a new folder on the root of the SD card named "Apps."

  3. 3

Copy the DeSmuMe Wii "Apps" folder contents to the "Apps" folder on your SD card. Place the corresponding DeSmuMe Wii directory containing the "ROMS" and "SAVES" folder on the root directory of the SD card. The DeSmuMe Wii emulator will read the ROMs and saves from this folder. Copy any ROMs you have into the "ROMS" folder. If you have a BIOS file, create a folder named "BIOS" and place the file in the folder. A specific BIOS file runs different firmware on your Nintendo DS console.

  4. 4

Eject the SD card and insert into your Wii SD slot. Turn on your Wii and navigate to the Homebrew Channel. Browse until you find the DeSmuMe Wii emulator and press "A" to launch the software. Browse for games using the directional pad and press "A" to launch the games. Settings such as game controls, save slots or other system settings can be changed by pressing "A" on the specific button.
