Blender 3D Bow Tie Modeling Tutorial

Written by carol adams | 13/05/2017

Blender is a powerful freeware 3D modelling and animation application. Amateur modelers, as well as those just starting out in the industry, often use Blender as an alternative to pricey commercial products like Maya or Cinema 4D. It can be used to create virtually anything you can imagine, such as clothing items or props. One item that is easy to make in Blender is a bow tie.

Click on the shortcut on your desktop to start the Blender application. In the panel at the bottom, change to "Edit Object" mode and click on the "Face Selection" tool.

Drag with the middle mouse button to rotate the cube to access the left face. Right-click on the face to select it.

Click "E" on you keyboard to activate the "Extrude" function. Type "2" on your keyboard and click "Enter."

Click "S" on your keyboard to activate the "Scale" function. Type "3" on your keyboard and click "Enter."

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 with the face on the opposite side of the cube. Then go to the panel at the bottom and change back to "Object Mode."

Go to "Objects" in the bottom menu, then "Transform" and choose "Scale on Axis." From the options, choose "Y Global." Move the mouse to reduce the thickness of the tie to what you want. Click when you have in right. Save your work.
