As a freelance translator you are constantly obligated to sell yourself and your abilities to maintain steady employment. However, if you market yourself well, you will open your modern career opportunities to such freelance jobs such as resume translation, teleconference translation and medical documentation work. The most extensive way to provide evidence of your education and training to prospective employers and clients is to write a professional translator CV. This document will highlight your career and areas of expertise as a freelance translator.

    Start your CV by typing your personal information, including your full name, current address, phone number, e-mail address and professional website URL if you have one. Since freelance translation jobs are often done for individuals in personal situations, it is also common to put your date of birth, gender and nationality in this section.

    Create the "Summary" or "Translation" section in which you will write in paragraph form about your career as a translator. Include information about how many years you have been a translator, languages spoken and areas of expertise, and types of translation jobs you have experience with, such as resume translation, online correspondence and oversees corporate work. If you grew up speaking one of your offered languages, mention that you are a "native" speaker. Also list in point by point format specific services you offer as a translator like proofreading and transcription.

List your education background in reverse chronological order and include the degree or program title, institution name, location and date of completion or graduation. Under this, fill out each listing with a paragraph describing specific course work or student accomplishments relevant to your career as a freelance translator.

    Create your "References and Testimonials" page. As a freelancer having done many small jobs, type in quotations a few testimonials from clients or employers that can vouch for your work. Include each references name, location (city and country only) and the nature of the translation work. If given permission, you may also include contact information.
