Spray paint can be used to transform several objects and surfaces both inside and outside of the home, from wicker furniture to metal tabletop lamps. Spray paint can also be used to give glass pieces, from a glass tabletop to an antique glass vase, a new life. In order to spray paint glass, it is important to use paint that is specially designed to cover glass surfaces. These types of spray paint can be purchased at several home improvement and hardware stores.

Locate an area to perform the painting. When using spray paint, it is important to work in a well-ventilated area either indoors or outdoors.

Sand the entire surface of the piece with 80- or 100-grit sandpaper. This will create a surface that the paint will adhere to more effectively.

Clean off the glass surface with commercial glass cleaner and a soft cloth. This will remove any dust, dirt or impurities from the surfaces which could cause an uneven finish.

Hold the spray paint can approximately 10 inches away from the glass pieces and in a back and forth sweeping motion, apply the paint.

Allow the first coat to dry completely before applying a second coat.
