How to Change Spark Plug Wires in a 1500 Goldwing

Updated April 17, 2017

The Goldwing GL 1500 is a large touring motorcycle made by Honda. This top-of-the-line model was produced from 1988 until 2001, when it was replaced by the GL 1800 Goldwing. The GL 1500 uses a liquid-cooled, six-cylinder 1520cc engine. Along with other regular maintenance procedures, maintaining the spark plugs and spark plug wires will ensure the longevity of your GL 1500 and keep it operating safely.

Locate the spark plugs by removing the side plates on the right and left sides of the Goldwing's engine. Grab hold of a single spark plug wire, just below where it attaches to the actual spark plug, and give it a gentle pull. The wire should pop right out.

Follow the spark plug wire to its opposite endpoint, where it connects to the distributor. Pull gently to fully remove the wire.

Install the new wire by snapping it into place at the spark plug end and the distributor cap end. It's better to do one spark plug wire at a time, rather than get them mixed up and risk engine problems, so finish one wire before moving on to another.

Repeat this process for the remaining spark plug wires and replace the side plates on your Goldwing's engine.
