How to Use a Shimano 105 Shifter

The Shimano ST-5700-L-S and ST-5703-3 are dual purpose gear shifter models that are part of the NEW 105 road bike build set. The shifter features an internal cable module for lightened steering, an adjusted brake pivot point for greater braking force from the top of the hoods and adjustable shims. The shifter is compatible with the Ultegra 6700 and Dura-Ace 7900 road bike build sets manufactured by Shimano.

Familiarise yourself with the Shimano 105 shifter levers built into the brake mechanism. The metallic brake lever also serves to shift the associated chainring from smaller to larger. Nested within the brake lever is a smaller lever which serves to shift the associated chainring from larger to smaller.

Shift the rear chainring up by pressing the left-hand brake lever toward the front wheel until the gear clicks into place. To shift the rear chainring down, press the nested lever on the left-hand brake lever until the gear clicks into place.

Shift the front chainring up by pressing the right-hand brake lever toward the front wheel until the gear clicks into place. To shift the front chainring down, press the nested lever on the right-hand brake lever until the gear clicks into place.
