The Acer Aspire Series One ZG5 is a netbook computer. A netbook is difficult to repair because of its small form factor. The solder joints that connect the power jack to the motherboard are harder to work with because of their small size and create problems for standard soldering iron tips. An affordable hobbyist soldering iron can do the job, but it is easier to work with a more expensive, temperature-controlled soldering kit and finer iron tip. If you have never soldered before, take some time to practice before attempting this repair. This article assumes that you have already disassembled the computer.

Turn the motherboard upside down and prop it up where necessary to create a stable working surface. Liquefied solder will bead up and roll on an uneven plane, causing damage to heat-sensitive materials.
Plug in the soldering iron and allow it to warm up.
Use the soldering iron to heat each solder joint holding the DC power jack to the motherboard. When the joint melts, use the pump or copper braid to remove the solder. Try to remove as much solder as possible as this will make the rest of the repair easier.
Remove the jack from the motherboard with a pair of pliers. If the jack is stuck, heat up each pin and try to remove them individually. This is a slow process but it is necessary to avoid damaging the motherboard's traces.
Scrub the area with a toothbrush soaked with alcohol. This will remove dirt and debris from the traces and help ensure a solid connection with the fresh solder you will be applying. Wait for the alcohol to evaporate before continuing.
Insert the new jack and apply fresh rosin core solder to each pin. When the jack is secure, use a continuity checker to confirm a good connection between the inside of the jack and the solder joints on the underside of the motherboard. Plug in the power adaptor; a light should turn on indicating that the computer is receiving power. Unplug your soldering iron and reassemble your Acer Aspire netbook.
