How to locate a GPS cell phone by the number

Updated April 17, 2017

If you constantly receive a strange phone number on your cell phone, you may want to know the caller's exact location. On the other hand, you may want to track your child or grandparent's GPS-enabled cell phone to ensure that person's safety. There is free cell phone tracking software that lets you track a cell phone's whereabouts. No matter what your reason is, this can bring you some sort of peace of mind.

Download reverse phone search software. Examples include Phone Detective, Reverse Mobile and Cell Phone Registry. Save the file to your desktop.

Double click the file. Follow the set-up wizard instruction for installing the software. Save the software to a newly created folder on your computer's hard drive.

Restart your computer. This allows your computer to recognise and properly run the newly installed software.

Double click the software's icon. Click the "Tracking" icon. Enter the cell phone number you want to track.

Wait for the results to load. The software should give the town or city and state that the mobile number is currently in.
