InSinkErator manufactures disposals for grinding up waste and flushing it through the drain lines of a kitchen sink. The Evolution disposal uses a multi-grinding technology to grind dense items like bones quickly and quietly. The most common problems with a disposal are the motor stopping due to an item jamming the blades, bad smells from the disposal and water leaks in the kitchen cabinet.

    Removing Jams

  1. 1

Turn the disposal switch off. Turn the water off to the kitchen sink.

  2. 2

Open the cabinet doors and insert one end of the InSinkErator wrenchette into the centre hole on the disposal bottom. Turn the wrenchette left and right until the bottom turns one full revolution. This action clears the item jamming the blades inside the disposal.

  3. 3

Place a pair of long tongs into the top of the disposal and remove the item that caused the jam.

  4. 4

Wait three to five minutes for the motor to cool and push the red reset button on the right bottom of the disposal in the cabinet.

  1. 1

Peel oranges and place the peelings into the disposal.

  2. 2

Turn the cold water faucet on entirely to produce a steady stream of cold water. Turn the disposal switch on. Allow the orange peelings to grind up completely and exit the disposal. The grinding sounds stop when they are entirely cut up and washed away.

  3. 3

Leave the cold water running for at least 15 seconds. Turn the water and disposal off.

    Leaks in the Cabinet

  1. 1

Place a large pan under the disposal in the cabinet.

  2. 2

Turn the cold water completely on and the disposal switch on. Observe the disposal to see where the water is leaking out. Turn both the water and disposal off.

  3. 3

Tighten the disposal top clockwise into the locking tabs for upper leaks.

  4. 4

Turn the plumbing nuts clockwise on the drainpipe with adjustable pliers for discharge leaks.

  5. 5

Insert a screwdriver into the metal band on the dishwasher outlet. Turn the screw clockwise to tighten the connection.

Tips and warnings

  • The InSinkErator wrenchette is included in the purchase of the Evolution disposal.
  • Do not force items into the disposal and always use a strong stream of cold water while in use.
